Diet is a 4 Letter Word

Monday, May 23, 2016

I recently realized that I have fallen back into the diet mentality. I've basically been thinking about how much I can eat and still stay near my calorie range. The word 'diet' has such negative connotations, at least for me. When I think of dieting, I think of what I can't do, what I can't have; it feels like a punishment. I looked up diet in the thesaurus, and two of the synonyms were restriction and starvation!

I need to stop thinking of the negative ideas associated with diet, and embrace the positives of a lifestyle change. A lifestyle change is, after all, what I'm after. I don't want to be on a diet where when I'm 'done' I go back to bad habits. Change can be exciting! New foods, new activities, new clothes, new self-confidence, and once I see some new (smaller) numbers on the scale, I will have the new found drive a little success provides.

Lifestyle change, here I come!

I read a great one here on the use of negative words in setting goals. I do the same thing, low carb diet, and when I am done, what then? I need to change my thinking too!
