Waiting for my body to get with the program

My body amazes me. It built two adorable, healthy children and fed them. When you think about it, well, it is pretty darn awesome. And I love my body for that. However, my body is also stubborn as hell. I have been routinely measuring all my food on a scale and exercising at least 45 minutes a day. Has the scale budged at all? Nope. I know it isn't muscle weight because my clothes aren't getting any looser. My calories are in the correct range, I'm eating healthy foods, and getting the right amount of sleep and exercise. So what gives? I'm still nursing. Say what? Doesn't that burn calories, after all isn't that what all models and actresses say is their secret to bouncing back after baby? Well, according to my doctor the answer is yes and no. For some women nursing can result in holding onto the baby weight or even weight gain. Guess what type of woman I am? My body is refusing to give up my maternal fat stores until my son gives up nursing (hopefully before he graduates high school - I've been trying to wean him for nine months). So, until then I will keep on keeping on and eventually my body will catch on and the weight will come off. In the meanwhile I will focus on how great I feel because I am making my health a priority.

    I did drop all my baby weight while nursing. I found I needed a lot more water than I was used to so my body didn't try to hold onto a lot of that. Also, I found I needed more calories as I was getting myself into starvation mode before I realized this. I wish you much success. Enjoy those little ones. They grow up way too fast!
