SparkPoints eat or not to eat...Need Spark Community help

Friday, October 07, 2016

I spoke to someone in a health food store and I was told that some yogurt is not good for you...that you need to get the full fat kind...Like Fage yogurt...there are hidden sugars and things not good for you in other yogurts.

I am reaching out to the Spark community to get their feedback. I used to eat Chiobani Flips, and sometimes Lean and Fit...I haven't tried Fage. I even tried a coconut milk yogurt

Thoughts, feelings, suggestions???

Any comments you have will be greatly appreciated!!

I think people in health food stores, employees, tend to take it all to the other extreme.... Meaning anything processed is bad. I feel reading labels is your best bet. No real "hidden sugars" if you know those words for sugars. SP has articles on that. Personally I like either low fat or no fat Greek.

Fage and Powerful have fat free plain yogurts that are lower in sugar if you want to stick to fat free. Whole milk yogurt is good for you, though: there's nothing wrong with fat, it's not the enemy, and will help you stay full longer.

Once they take the fat out of a product they replace it with sugar. Try full fat plain greek y yogurt. Top with fruit or my favorite is 1/2 ounce of walnuts. The fat and nuts keeps you satisfied longer. Once i start eating sugar I am hungry all day

Definitely keep an eye on "hidden" sugars. But they aren't really hidden, just need to read the label. Full Fat vs No Fat....I use no-fat but Low-Fat in dairy is usually recommended. I'd say...keep your calorie limits in mind and eat what you enjoy

I buy plain, fat-free Greek yogurt and mix it with fresh fruit and sugar-free jam and it's pretty good.
