My first cold ride

Saturday, December 03, 2016

So one of my goals this winter is to figure out how to ride my bike in the cold. I want to do this for 2 main reasons.
1. it gives me another exercise option in winter (I already jog)
2. I've taken to the idea of riding my bike for errands (like grocery shopping). I want to get going on this, and winter is here. Also, if I get going on this in bad weather, then there is no excuse to not do it in good weather.

So today's ride.
When I left at around 845 am it was 37 F (felt like 32). By the time I got back at 930 AM it was 35 and felt like 32.

The ride was about 48 minutes for around 9.2 miles, so 11.5 mph. Not bad for me, especially considering the stop lights.

I did this ride first since it isn't too far and takes me to a shopping area (Aldi, Kroger, dollar store etc.).

I know that I am a horrible weather dresser so I am going to start a notebook with weather information and clothing choices. This way I have a record of what works and what doesn't.

Yay for weather notebook. My most important cold-weather riding gear was a pair of lobster claw gloves (actually gifted to me by another SparkFriend!) There's just no way to protect your hands from the wind/damp/cold when you're riding unless you have some heavy duty protection.

Good on you for not letting the weather keep you from getting your exercise in! I don't know if I could have gotten out there like that. emoticon
