WooHoos and wishes.....

Thursday, December 15, 2016

With the New Year still 2 weeks away, my office is already buzzing with regrets for things not accomplished, dread for New Years resolutions and fear regarding things yet to come. (for crying out loud, one Holiday at a time -- Christmas isn't even here yet)

I'm all about attitude changing everything..... happy thoughts make a happy person. Accentuating the positive actually helps to eliminate the negative, so why not change to a more positive focus. One way to make that more of a theme for my life was to make a "WooHoo Jar" -- for things that bring smiles throughtout the year. Whether it be something grand, or miniscule, blessings should be counted everyday. At the end of the year, instead of focusing on things that didn't go right, I'd go through the jar and read all the blessings that occurred. 365, or more, positve things that occured -- lots of times its kind words from a card, letter or goody I received. Sometimes its a reminder of something that I accomplished -- like reaching my goals. I even put in reminders of things my loved ones did to make me smile or warm my heart -- like DH surprising me with flowers or the grands being silly (ie; stop making me laugh gramma, my cheeks hurt =).

The tough part is letting them go at the end of the year so I can start over again.... I suppose that's why I have an even bigger WOOHOO BOX for the ones I just don't want to forget.

Eventually I got to a point where it became habit without the jar. I still keep a few written down for the box so that on days when I'm really a GLOOMY GUS or feeling like the world is against me (yes I have them--just not very often or for very long)... then I get my happy dose of reality and am able to put stuff back into perspective.

My wish is that everyone had their own WOOHOO jar or something similiar. Even if they just jotted down a line or 2 on a piece of paper everyday, with something as simple as "I woke up on the right side of the bed this morning" or "I have a warm place to sleep at night", they'd be amazed at how much it would change their life over time.

Will you help my wish come true?

I like the WooHoo jar idea. I keep all comments in my journal positive just because I don't need another place to groan. This year I am going to keep my resolutions down to 2-3 that I seriously want. I'm going back over last years goals and they are overwhelming.

By the way - Grands are great! DH and I try to make sure they are our number one priority. They live far away but we spend as much time as possible with them.

Loving it! Thanks for sharing a great idea!!

This is why DH and I go over our blessings (almost) every day! I say almost because he is blessed to have a job and it keeps him very late some evenings where all he can do is say "I love you. Goodnight." And I count that as one of MY blessings! Each "I love you" from family or friend! If you take a bit of time each day to be thankful for the good things, it's really hard to feel too sorry for yourself!
