Did I mention I'm not a morning person???

Friday, January 27, 2017

In the remake of "Freaky Friday" with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsey Lohan, there is a scene in the beginning when the mom is trying to get the daughter out of bed for school, and she is pulling on her ankles while the girl clings to the headboard. That was me from about 3rd grade up. I normally work 8 hour shifts, from 3 pm to 11 pm, and I love it. I no longer have school age children to worry about, so this is the shift that makes me feel the most alert and productive. My position is sort of the "extra". There are two 40 hour secretaries that work 2 12 and 2 8 hour shifts and two 36 hour secretaries that work 3 12 hour shifts. I am 32 hours, and I fill in the gaps, but we are usually over staffed by 16 hours. I do a lot different things during the over times to help my boss, data entry and weekly/monthly reports, and I am responsible for the scheduling for the secretaries.

We have two call-in Secretaries, but one can only cover late evenings and nights on week-ends, and the other is notorious for not replying to needs for coverage for months at a time, and then picking up a bunch of hours just as we are going to let her go. My 40 hour day shift secretary took vacation the past two weeks, 28 hours each. (they rotate every other week end off, she took the days between her scheduled weekends.) I needed to cover 12 hours, and once again, I had no response from the CI that can work day shift. I ended up scheduling my self for 2 12 hour day shifts and having the other call in cover form 7 pm to 11 pm., then I picked up an extra 8 hours (worked a total of 40 hours) to make it 3 12's in a row. I was hoping to catch up on my rest over the weekend, but my dad was sent to the ER with a high heart rate by his dialysis facility, and I had to drive my mom in, and then back and forth, plus I needed to do the shopping, not restful at all. This week, I picked up 8 hours again, doing a 12 hour day on Monday and Tuesday, a 12 hour evening (11 am to 11 pm) on Wednesday, and a 4 hour shift tonight. (7 pm to 11 pm) I had to take mom to a doctor and physical therapy appointment this morning and then take my poor, neglected, dog over to the beach park for a good romp. Once I had him and myself cleaned up, it was close to 2 in the afternoon, and since I had, once again, gotten less than 6 hours of sleep, I decided to take a nap. I really love my dog. He woke me up when my alarm didn't.

I will be sooooo glad to get back to my regular schedule next week. Between the hours and lack of sleep, the weather being Bipolar (warm and humid one day, cold and wind the next) and the high amounts of volcanic haze in the air, I am feeling sick enough to want to stay curled up in bed with hot honey lemon water, but not sick enough to justify calling out sick. Once I clock out tonight, I will have four glorious days off, and I can finally rest an sleep until 11!

I'm with you - mornings are not my "sweet spot". Naturally I MARRIED a morning person. I've finally convinced DH that any conversation he has with me at 6:00 am, no matter WHAT I said, was not true communication!
