It's all gone, starting fresh

Monday, February 13, 2017

Well here I am , I removed all old blogs and page comments for the past six years. I want a Refresh, Restart..I need to start making new friends who are serious about the need to change old eating habits. I'm in a place right now where I am in the same weight range that I have been for the past couple years and I am too heavy. Trouble with my feet has given me the excuse not to exercise but that's a cop out. I need to whip up some serious motivation. I'm back working two nights a week and volunteering one day a week so being retired is a thing of the past right now. I must decide what diet to follow, it seems I've been on them all. Most recently it's been limited carbs but I'm missing it somewhere. I'm am so tired of is exhausting losing and gaining and never gaining any real progress. What is wrong with me? I feel like I'm broken and don't know how to glue me back together. There's a key to all this but I just have to find out what it is. Obviously what I've been doing is not working. I will keep seeking answers, hoping to ask the right questions. Until next time.

I've lost all my contacts, so when you have a moment, if you could drop me an email to my uniserve account, I'd appreciate it. I've been thinking loads about you these past months. I personally cannot cut out all carbs or I feel like I'm walking under water on top of lava, with anxiety walking with me. I've backslid a bit because of feeling frustrated with no weight loss, no matter what I do and then I really injured myself doing exercise. So starting over with walking and re-thinking the food issue. I'm thinking that the best way to do it and enjoy life is to eat as much veggies and fruit as one can afford, ensure there is protein with every meal, hopefully that'll do the trick. All the best of everything with the fresh start.

Maybe instead of trying every diet out there--and there are enough to keep doing that for the rest of your life, you could design your own diet. You could chose the things that you like that are good for you, and make sure to add in small bits of things that aren't good for you so you don't feel deprived and tired of the whole thing. It could be a lifestyle instead of a diet, and that way you wouldn't ever need to go 'off' it.

Exercise doesn't have to be on your feet, there are plenty of chair exercises here on Spark people in the fitness area, but probably the REAL issue isn't your feet, or carbs, or even willpower. There is something or several somethings that have a basis in emotions/feelings that holds you back, and it's up to you to find out what the issue(s) is/are and see what you can do about them.

I'm a stress eater, and there's a cycle: feel stress; eat; feel more stress; eat something worse; feel like a complete and total failure; eat; repeat. That's fairly common, but the cure? The cure is very very personal, and up to you to find. For me, I have to recognize when I'm STARTING to feel stress, and then try several things to short circuit the cycle. Others have had success just acknowledging they feel it, or can stop as soon as they realize what is going on. What can I say, I have more denial issues, but the point is that you have to work out what will help YOU. Trail and error, and there are likely to be plenty of errors, so plan for that right away! It's all worth it because your solutions will continue to work for you for the rest of your life.

Good luck on your fresh start!

Congratulations on your restart. I am restarting my Sparkpeople too after 4 years of no sparking. The nutrition tracker is awesome. It really works. I follow a strict Paleo Diet that is not low carb, but moderate carb. This has been good for me, but everyone is different. With the nutrition tracker, I don't have to do low carb to lose weight and I really enjoy my fruits and vegetables. emoticon
