A days good deed..maybe? Maybe not..

Tuesday, February 21, 2017

Another day on the farm.. Upon opening the top drawer of my bathroom vanity, a surprise awaited. Q-tips in disarray, tiny high pitched noises & a moment of befuddled confusion. All that was wanted was a quick trip into the drawer for a q-tip. What was found instead was a mama mouse & her little brood of newborn babies..hmmm. Grabbing some work gloves, lots of those on a farm, the first available box & quickly the teeny tiny family was relocated to the barn.. with some oats & spinach. Maybe it's a case of being too soft hearted, but I just can't do them in. So, off to the barn they go & off to scour & bleach out the drawers I go.

lol!!! I would have the same thing. .... My cats have caught them, brought them in alive, I've rescued the mouse from the cat and put it back outside in a safe non cat area.

Our cat had a very small chubby field mouse trapped in some small logs. Couldn't quite reach it. It was a standoff. All day. My bride took food and water for the cat and water, peanut butter and a bit of seed mix for the mouse. They both ate and drank. How it ended up, we don't know, but it went into the evening.

I think it was my parents way of teaching us to not be upset over bloodshed, but to be proud of our kittens for working on new skills. Also, less cat food to try to afford.

My parents always told me back on my farm that we were doing a favor for our cats and helping them learn to hunt if we relocated mice families to baby kitty stomachs. Baby kitties trying to wrestle baby mice is actually pretty cute and funny.
