For the last few years, members of the Spark Team 50+ Females Feeling Fit and Fabulous have gathered in Shipshewana, IN for a fun three days! We picked this location because of the large fabric and quilting store, Lolly's. Most of the ladies are avid sewers and quilters although I do not sew and they let me tag along!
This year our attendee's were: SHARONSPARKLE (and DH), LILYGAL (and DH), MSWEEZER, LOUISEH54
My DH and I drove down on Monday afternoon and stayed in the Shipshewana South Campground. The rest of the group booked rooms at Blue Gate Garden Inn. We all arrived at different times and so we decided to meet at the Blue Gate Restaurant at 5 pm. We were seated in the perfect place as we were almost alone in our section so in addition to a wonderful Amish meal we felt free to sit and visit as long as we wanted.
After dinner we called it a day as we were all tired from our day of travels. Before parting we agreed to meet at Lolly's at 9am when it opens.
So DH dropped me off so he could have the car for the day. I arrived at 9:01 and the ladies were waiting.
They had already went for their morning walk and had a nice continental breakfast at their hotel.
We shopped for a very long time at Lolly's and every year I am in awe of how talented these ladies really are when it comes to sewing and quilting. They feed off of each other and it is fun just to watch them!
But I have my own kind of fun following them around.
Also while shopping at Lolly's we were joined by a former SP member, Janet. She no longer posts but because of the friendship we have formed, she tries to meet us every year. So when we left, we asked a stranger to get a picture of the entire group!
We followed up Lolly's with a stroll through the town and checked out all the small shops. We were disappointed to see some of them were closed and vacant. When DH went to his favorite bakery to get his annual Apple Fritter, he found that to be vacant and building for rent as well. Rumor has it that the workers all went for jobs in Middlebury for better wages and benefits. Who knows what is really going on but it is sad to lose some of our favorites.
After meandering around, we decided it was lunch time. We chose to return to the Blue Gate Restaurant as no one gets tired of Amish meals. Our next stop was Yoder's. Can you guess where they spent their time?
By this time, my leg was bothering me from all the walking (perhaps sciatic nerve?) so I had them drop me off at the campground while they made their last stop over in Middlebury. I had time to rest and bake Weezie's dish for dinner.
We all gathered at our campsite for dinner at 6pm, including our spouses that were there. This year we were pleased with being on an end site so we had no neighbors beside us. And perhaps the best part was NO RAIN! The last few years we have been plagued with bad weather at the time we wanted to gather for our potluck!
LILYGAL makes pies every year for a festival so we always have her bring some for us to sample. This year we got to sample an apple, peach and a Bumble berry pie. As always, they got our high seal of approval.
I did take a few candid shots of our group
Our little Nala enjoyed all the attention she rec'd as well.
Our last day we all went to the Flea Market! You can't go to Shipshewana without a trip to the flea market. DH and I went by ourselves fully expecting to meet up with the rest of the group. It never happened! After we bought what we wanted, we left for the trip home.
When we left our house on Monday it was pouring rain and we drove out of it. Well, when we returned home, we drove back into it! We had a few scary minutes traveling with the storm but it eventually moved on and by the time we arrived home, the rain had stopped. Of course, the fact that we stopped at Gun Lake Casino on our way might be the reason. It was worth the stop as I added another $50 to my winnings. I'm on a roll!
Our trip for next year is already in the books. We will be meeting July 9th thru July 11th. Please consider joining us, as we guarantee you will have fun and the spouses say they wouldn't miss it either. So bring your DH. You can camp or stay in the hotel, your choice!
