Two Little Things

The two little things I picked to blog about today are steps and water.

First the water.....I never have been a water drinker. Keeping track of how many glasses I would drink was easy - as it was close to none, other than the big glass I sit by my bedside at night. For some reason, I like to have a nice drink of it in the wee hours of the morning. I was happy to learn that coffee and tea could be counted, so I might be able to log in 5 glasses a day at the most.

Well, that all changed this week. My neice invited me to a 7 Day Water Challenge that she was doing with several others. emoticon She explained that I would need to drink water equal to what would be one half of my body weight in ounces for the 7 first seven days of August. I thought about it and decided it would be a good challenge for me.....after all - 62 ounces of water shouldn't be all that hard! Tough part was that ONLY water would count. No coffee or tea. Still could drink it, but it was not included in my challenge ounces! The good news is that I am on day 6 and have been able to meet my goal every day so far. The trips to the bathroom have been often, but the revelation that I am eating less as I feel fuller, and I have more energy has me thinking I will keep drinking more water even when this challenge ends tomorrow!

The second little thing isn't as little. I have several streaks going - over 200 days of logging in and tracking on SP and doing at least 10 minutes of exercise a day, but the one I am most proud of is my streak of 10K steps or more for 160 days! That is ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY days in a row! emoticon I am so motivated to keep this up! Most days I have at least 12K. My Jawbone UP keeps me informed of how many steps I need to hit my goal. This past week-end we were at our lake home and had brought friends with us. They got up and walked with me each morning and didn't mind me abandoning the group when I had to go back out the door in the evening because I was short of my goal steps!

Drinking 8 glasses of water and 10K steps are my little things - but I am thinking they are big things in the whole scheme of keeping myself healthy! emoticon
