2 weeks of strength and walking

Tuesday, August 15, 2017

As many of us are, I am an emotional eater. Stress comes with my life choices ( family, work, animal rescue) and those choices also fulfill my soul. As my workouts have progressed from my beloved swimming (90 to 120 mins of crawl a week) adding in outside walking, and now both Sparks full body strengthening and leslie sansone walking, blogging to release those ideas and emotions has also become more necessary. At 52, weight loss is stubborn and weight gain is as close as adding a cocktail to a meal. Despite drastically increasing my exercise, my weight has increased this summer. Yep, muscle is more dense than fat. I am deeply grateful for the victories beyond the scale. Less pain in my back and legs is my biggest gratitude. More flexibility has been a blessing: being able to put on my shoes and socks is very empowering! Better endurance, more strength. My son's band is installing stadium seats for a big university this Saturday as a fundraiser. Last summer, I was unable to bend, unable to walk stairs, unable to be out in the 100 degree temps for long. This year, I can do all those things and contribute to band, and to my family. Blessings abound. So, I'll take those increased pounds and pray the scale heads in the opposite direction! I haven't measured my weight, bust, hips, arms. As most of the clothes I've been wearing are elastic and loose, I haven't seen many changes in their fit. I can't help wondering if the change in my bust size is from better muscle tone, or the changing estrogen and progesterone levels as I progress through my menopause year. Ha! I started CPAP / Bipap for sleep apnea in March, both obstructive from my obesity and central apnea from my nervous system. After battling to adapt to the face mask and air flow while sleeping, it seems that adding in the strength training these past few weeks may have brought my tiredness to a level that blocks out the irritations of the apparatus. Irritations that also make sure I have oxygen while I sleep, so well worth the time to adapt! So, I'm here, I'm grateful. I'm happy I've chosen to move more and eat more healthfully.
