Crashed and Burned

Tuesday, August 22, 2017

I fell off the SP Wagon......about 2 weeks ago. I was really sad as I had so many good streaks going for me - Logging in for 212 days straight, tracking food for 208, and best of all, my 166 day streak of 10K or more of steps each day.

What happened? Life. I had my 90 year old mom with me for a week. She has Alzheimers. My youngest son and his wife and their toddler flew in from California to be here and to celebrate their baby boy's 3rd birthday. My other 3 grown kids and their families were all here and helped to plan a Paw Patrol party for little Samuel. It was a great time!

So what was the problem? Lack of time to get everything in....no time to get on my computer to log in....no minutes left in the day to get those last few steps in because I was exhausted and needed to go to bed. Cooking lots of meals for everyone. Lots of time supervisiong my 7 grandchildren in the pool. Trying to care of my mom's needs. (Ever given your mom a bath?) Whew! Life was just overwhelming. But being with all my children and my mother was wonderful. I was sad when they all left....tired. When you are 70, you just don't have the energy you had when you were younger!

At first I was very sad that I had "failed" to keep my streaks going. But eventually I came to realize that it would be OK....that I would get back to my routines eventually. i just needed to enjoy my family and all the commotion that comes with having a big family.

Plus - and this is a big plus....my hubby and I will be leaving on a trip to Ireland in 2 weeks, and I thought my streaks would have to end then. Now I don't have to stress about that. I can go and just enjoy seeing a new country for the first time. My husband's family came from Ireland in 1909 and some of his distant cousins have invited us to come and learn about his family history. One of them even owns a castle! So other than dreading that long flight, it should be an awesome trip.

Bottom line is that I might have crashed and burned and lost my streaks, but I am still trying to eat healthy and exercise every day. And perhaps after our Ireland trip I can start some new streaks! In the meantime, I will check in and log what I can, but the pressure is off!
Life is good!

I am 75 yrs old--- take Synthroid--suffer miserably with sciatica--which, by the way, I find 10 minutes walking on the treadmill, or outside, kinda jiggles everything back into place for the day--and it's such a busy life , that there really are days I just wonder why I even try---but-- LOL--(HERE I GO!)--- When I stop, I feel awful-- My weight goes up SO fast --- I get puffy--and grouchy --because I feel like a failure--- so--- I decided to try a 3 month thing--- well, one month is over--- I thought, in my whole life, surely to goodness I can make time for ME---- Surely I can stop eating chocolate etc--exercise-even for 10 minutes a day---This past month sure wasn't easy--I tried for a pound a week---so--I almost got there-lost 3.5 pounds in January-- (I had gained 8 pounds over Xmas)--
So-----I REALLY understand where and why you feel "down"-- --Try to come back, say for a week-- then go from there-- i'm sure that you will be in this world next week----swo--try to take a wee bit of everyday for "YOU"--- That is the hardest part for me--- to think of "ME"
Have I been of any help?---
You are such a pretty person---
Its nice that my blog just might've helped yu-

Caretaking for aging parents is a challenge. You have had a great streak and will have more. Keep making healthy choices and doing what you can. Enjoy your trip to Ireland and glad you enjoyed the recent family visit.

I've been struggling with logging my food but I exercise and drink my water. How I eat is probably not "Clean eating" whatever it's called. I eat like my family so it's hard to count my calories. I refuse (sorry) to be a short order cook for the entire family. Since I'm on this new journey for life I've conditioned myself to eating light. Hope you have a great holiday!

It's very tough dealing with our aging parents especially when they have dementia. Important to realize that we can't fail if we don't try and you've had a GREAT streak and you'll have many more.

Enjoy your trip to Ireland. Bet you get in plenty of walking there.
