I am starting the Fall 5% Challenge tomorrow. I was thinking about the best way to approach this latest challenge.
What comes to mind is “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” I have a plan that is working for me and, even if I am not losing weight fast, I am losing. Will I reach the 5% goal, I certainly hope so. However, even if I don’t, my goal remains the same, finding a way to lose and enjoy my journey while doing it.
Once I embraced the idea that I had to do something I can do for life, not just to lose, I had to come up with a plan that would not just let me get the weight off but keep it off. I decided to stop dieting and start living in a way that didn’t have a finite period.
I decided to do portion control and moderation. No longer would I have diet restrictions, I would work with the foods I love eating and modify the portions or the amount of times I would have them but I would not restrict them. There were no longer any ‘bad’ foods in my book.
This approach is working for me. It may be taking a little longer to lose weight but I am happy and content with the way I eat. I no longer stress about cheating. When you can eat everything you like there is no cheating. It’s hard work sometimes I won’t kid you. Weighing and measuring almost everything you eat takes patience and perseverance. When you eat out, getting a to-go box at the beginning of the meal can get you a couple of puzzled looks but I don’t let those things stop me.
So far, I have lost 54 lbs; but more important, I am keeping the weight off. Through holidays, vacations, and through the everyday ups and downs that life throws at you.
My best advice, stop dieting. Find something that will work for you for the long haul and just do it.
Let the challenge begin. Whatever weight comes off, I will have worked MY program so I will be happy with the outcome.
