Hello again.

As some of you might know, I live in a large apartment complex (150 suites). Living in such close quarters often brings added challenges that home owners do not have to deal with. One of those challenges involves the addition of unwanted 'critters' ie) bed bugs. They spread from suite to suite through walls, baseboards etc. They can make ones' life a living nightmare.

The day I was hit by the car my place was being sprayed. I never made it home that day. Since that time I have been living on the couch since that seems to be the easiest for leg immobilization and rest. I am grateful for that couch. It is reasonably comfortable and affords me easy assess to the bathroom. I am grateful I do not have to go into the bedroom which seems to be the area the critters like best.

I am grateful for the crutches the hospital sent me home with. These crutches provide me with greater mobility. I appreciate the fact that Home Equipment companies exist in order to meet the needs of people who require such assistance. Although dealing with our No Fault insurance company has been very very difficult, not to mention frustrating; I am grateful they will be covering the costs of renting these items. I simply could not afford it.

Laying on that busy street for more than an hour in rush hour traffic was a very frightening experience for me. I suspect there was some element of shock. I knew my leg was badly broken but it appeared as if my head was intact. It could have been soooooo much worse. One woman got off the bus and shouted, I saw the whole thing. Keep her down. She hit her head. I kept insisting that my head was okay. I had no idea that my eye was badly bruised. I was not wearing a helmet. There have been times in my life when I no longer wanted to live. This was not one of those times. I was grateful to be alive; to have only bruises and a couple broken bones.

I'm grateful for all the kind people who rushed to my assistance. There was a very capable nurse at the scene (another bystander) who examined me from the top of my head and down my spine. I was calm, very very calm. These capable individuals helped me feel even calmer.

I have so much more to feel grateful for but now it is time to rest.

Thank you for reading.

I didn't know you were on the pavement for an hour. You must have been chilled to the bone. I'm so glad there were folks there to take care of and be with you until help arrived. You are much stronger than you give yourself credit for my Sparkling Friend. Not too many people would grateful for anything after an accident such as you had, they would be too busy sitting on the pity pot! God bless you.

Great blog Mayie! To be able to be grateful in the face of such adversity is such a blessing--to us all! It is a choice. I had no idea you were on the street for an hour! How wonderful those concerned and competent people were there to help you and keep you immobile until you could be checked out!
Did you get out for awhile to a friends today? That would be nice. I know you need to rest and heal. I also know how difficult that is for you! Heal well and you'll be back stronger than ever! Hugs.

I'm really glad you weren't hurt any worse than you were. About the bug problem: we had a bout with bedbugs. Diatomaceous earth worked best for us. Pest control store recommended it. Sprinkle it under furniture& between mattress & box springs.

I am very glad that you weren't killed when you were hit by that SUV. You have such a great attitude of gratitude that you inspire me to be more thankful.

My Mom lived in housing for the elderly and roaches and bedbugs were common in that building. Mom put out glue mouse traps in front of her neighbor's door and the next day they would be covered with roaches. I didn't know about the bedbugs until after she died. They have tried to get rid of them, but have not been successful.

I hope that the spraying will keep that at bay while you try to rest and recuperate.
