Gloomy Monday, Packing for Las Vegas!!

Monday, January 08, 2018

I took the dog out this morning and it was remarkably dark and gloomy for 10 am. There was a fresh layer of snow on the ground, and then it began raining. Strange. But not as cold as the last week, so I'm ok with it. =)

I was very proud of myself yesterday, as it was the first time I've gone out with friends to eat since starting my new fitness plan here on SpeakPeople. It's always a good test of your resolve when you go out with friends who proceed to eat whatever they want. You have to make smart choices on your own, and sometimes, without much support from your friends! lol.

It was my friend's 35th birthday, so she invited me and a couple more friends to go out to lunch and then get a manicure together. (I'd never had a manicure and my nails looked terrible lol).

So we went to Northstar. If you're not familiar (I have no idea how widespread they are), it's kind of a trendy, overpriced boutique cafe thing that advertises being organic and offering vegan dishes and glouten-free, etc. We got there around brunch time at 11 and I hadn't eaten yet, and as I've blogged about in the past, I don't do the deprivation thing. If I'm hungry and I want pancakes, I'm going to order pancakes. And I did. The dish was called "Cloud 9 pancakes." Oh dear.

The plate came with three fluffy pancakes topped with butter and organic maple syrup, and a chopped banana on top. They were AMAZING. But there is always compromise when you let yourself order something like that if you want to stay on track. I ate slowly, conscious of what I was eating and I focused on enjoying them rather than shoveling them into my mouth while I absent-mindedly chatted with my friends. It's the concept of mindful eating that seems to be having a big impact on me. Anyways, I ate 2 and stopped. And it was not hard to not eat the third one, simply because I ate slowly, ate the banana, recognized that I was full, and it was ok to stop. I was really happy about that experience.

We got our nails done and I actually really enjoyed it. The salon people didn't say anything about my nails, lol. They fixed them right up, and I got them painted a vibrant blue color =)

Next week, I am going to Las Vegas!!! Every year I try to take a little solo trip for myself. I love doing things like traveling and doing touristy stuff and my husband hates it, so it's turned into a kind of self-pampering vaca and I absolutely love it, lol. I will be getting my first ever professional massage. =)

Have a great day guys. emoticon
