It's the first day of the 5% Spring challenge. I'm aiming at losing 15 pounds.
It's the first weekend in ages since I actually had no plans. What to do, what to do? On Thursday night, as I was riding the train home from work, I saw a miniature golf place right off the train tracks. Looked fun, I play (badly!), husband plays, so I suggested we make a day of it.
Now, we have a mini golf place much closer to home, but this place looked like it was bigger and nicer, so we got into the car, and took a 40 mile drive down the freeway for a Saturday date.
We played 18 holes
, waved at a few trains that passed by, enjoyed the sun
and then looked for an area restaurant to have a late lunch.
I have a friend that lives in the area and I had texted her to get suggestions on local restaurants that were nice, but new to us. She made a suggested and we headed out to try and find the place. After nearly an hour of meandering, we gave up and found a "Corner Bakery" to eat at. You might ask why we couldn't find the restaurant. I think the young lady at the mini golf place was sort of shocked that we did not have smart phones, so no handy app to give us coordinates. Made me wish for the old Thomas Guide days! And if you don't know Thomas Guide, well, you're just lots younger than I am!
At lunch, I began to realize that we had enjoyed the sun
a bit too much, as the back of my neck was beginning to sting. I wore a hat to cover my face, but my neck is sunburned and I expect the freckle factories are working on overdrive!
All in all, it was a nice day. Sitting here now, I realize that part of what made it nice, is that I actually felt like doing something. I've felt tired for years. Between working and the commute, and just trying to keep up with stuff (you know, laundry, house cleaning, groceries, etc.), I just have not felt like doing anything in a long, long time.
Now at nearly 50 pounds down and exercising on a daily basis and having the option of working from home 3-4 days a week, I think my energy levels and my interest in enjoying life is finally coming back!
I'm looking forward to this challenge and today was a good way to kick it off! Go Dawgs!
