Thinking of returning to active SP

Wednesday, April 11, 2018

I had heart bypass surgery a year or so ago and my walking has really stopped as has my singing. I have gained a lot of weight and am discouraged. I know I need to get moving especially since my husband will need a lot of help, now. He has macular degeneration that has just sped up and he can no longer drive or read without a lot of magnification.

So I need to do this for me, but even more for him.....

My husband had a heart attack and that was my initial reason to join SPARK. That was six years ago and we have managed to change about everything about our unhealthy selves. We started by tracking everything honestly and then ran the nutrition reports and started tweaking our diets little by little. The advice of DH's cardiologist; low salt, low fat and no legged or two legged protein. With SP recipes and all the great articles etc., that SP provides, and with the support of the people, it was doable and enjoyable. We are so blessed to have made the decision to change. Our lives depend on it! I wish the same for you and your husband. emoticon I pray for you to get your voice back.

Saying "don't be discouraged" would be easy...but those words are just too trite. I'd had no idea what you were and have been going through! This is a real take-one-step-at-a-time pile of issues, my friend. Front and center focus is obviously 'health' for both of you...

Strengthening the heart required professional advice. And usually exercise, but only of what sort is appropriate. Our area hospitals have 'wellness centers' that are great places to do exercise specifically targeting cardiac issues; do you have access to anything like that? Of course, that's assuming your cardiologist recommends it.

Is your husband in touch with a local organization for the blind? These folks prepare people with macular degeneration in many ways, and give support to their spouses, too. Even rearranging furniture and nick-nacks suddenly becomes a requirement; maybe it would be good to view this as a time to reorganize everything in the house? Making what your husband needs be easily accessible to him so that he can remain as independent as possible...?

I'm always just a SparkMail away, and even if I can't be of help, I'm there.
    You are in my prayers
