New shoes and rewards

Monday, April 16, 2018

These are the new shoes I bought as my reward for completing my first goal of losing 50 pounds. The old ones were wearing out and had a few holes, so it was time. Thank heavens the neon colors are inside the shoes. The last time I bought sneakers, all of the neon was on the outside of the shoes! Neon is ok for some, but not really what I was looking for.

I have trouble with rewards. Not that I don't think I should have one, it's just that I can never quite settle on a reward that I want or is appropriate. Five years ago, when I was on this same journey, I used massages and pedicures as my rewards. Trouble is, those are now a part of my on-going routine. The things I want generally have to do with relieving me of some chore, like a house cleaner. Unfortunately, that also comes with a price tag that is more than I can afford.

Buying "stuff" doesn't appeal to me either. I'm kind of at the place in life where I'm ready to get rid of stuff and accumulating more stuff is counter productive. I've also begun to believe that the consumer consumption pushed at us by advertising execs may not be the healthiest thing for us. It leaves us ever wanting for the next big "thing" and never quite satisfied.

What I need is time. Time to really think about goals, and plans. Time to drink in a sunny afternoon. Time to spend connecting with friends. Time to sit and stitch. Time to read.

The word coming to mind right now is "retreat." As in, taking a break from the normal and focusing on a new path, and new priorities.

Well, I think a seed has been planted. I need to pull out my calendar and clear some time.

Thanks Spark folks, talking (!) things out with you has helped a lot. Have a great week!

The shoes look great! I am so with you on the neon! NOT what I want on my feet!

I like the way you mused yourself to a solution. As I was reading your blog I was thinking a break was what you needed... I hope you can find the space to add it to your calendar and then find the friends with a matching time slot!

CONGRATS ON LOSING 50 LBS!!! emoticon emoticon
I'm not good at buying things as rewards either. If I need or want something, I go ahead and get it. The reward for any weight loss is just the wonderful satisfaction that I feel from losing each pound, and the excitement I get when I actually fit into smaller sizes.
emoticon And yes, I do use food as a reward.... I know we're not supposed to, but it works for me. For each 10 lbs loss, if I want one, I'll have a piece of cake. One of those individual slices of cake from a grocery store...or a cupcake.. LOL. I still work it in to my daily calories & WW pts.
