Week 4 - Introducing Exercise

So here we are on day 1 of week 4. I have to say, I'm really enjoying this journey so far. I am having no problems finding new and fun foods to try. I'm proud to say that I eat a plant-based diet and I have a colleague at work to talk about it with. If I were just doing this on my own, it wouldn't be nearly as much fun. We compare our experiences and progress and share information and interesting tidbits of knowledge with each other.

Today, I committed to incorporating more serious fitness into my daily routine. I am going to start with Beachbody T25. I am not ready for Insanity yet so I'm going to hold off until Month 2 for that. I'm also looking forward to starting to run again. Once the weather actually starts to cooperate, I plan on supplementing T25 with a run or a good bike ride when I can. At this point, I'd probably hurt myself if I started running so T25 at home is where I am starting. I am quite badly out of shape and today's workout was a good one. I know that I will get stronger with each workout as long as I commit to it.

One of the lessons I learned in 2010 when I first stepped into this arena was that I didn't want to be what I called skinny fat. What I mean by this term is losing lots of weight but not building muscle at the same time. When I hit my goal weight, I wished that I wasn't just skinny. So then I started lifting weights and building muscle which made the whole process take 2x as long. If I'd have been losing fat while building muscle, it would have been much more efficient. This, of course, is a double edged knife. To start, I didn't know if I would actually lose the weight and I really liked watching the numbers on the scale go down. If I'm building muscle, that doesn't happen as quickly which is discouraging. The only way to know if you are making progress is to see it in the mirror or in how your clothing fits. I probably should have taken "before" pictures. Oh well. I have pictures of old me which will have to suffice.

Having said all that, I am still going to focus on weight loss and daily exercise and try to get down to my goal weight of 165ish. That seems so far away...40lbs! Well, I'm already down 11lbs as of this morning so I'm well on my way and more importantly, I've found my dietary comfort in a plant-based diet so even if I were to stop tracking food and being active on SP, the weight would still slowly melt away by virtue of not eating meat, dairy or eggs.

It isn't about the terrible treatment of animals. It talks about why dairy is bad for you and what it does to your body. Now when someone says they need milk or other dairy I say, "Are you a baby cow? You don't need cow's milk.". Lol.
