Women's clothing sizes are SUCH A SCAM!

Tuesday, May 08, 2018

I've been going through my closet to get rid of some of the biggest things I don't need any more. I don't want to have a 'safety net' because I don't want to make it any easier to gain back weight.

I have to try EVERYTHING on. There is no consistency between sizes. The older the garment, the higher the number has to be for me to be able to fit into it. The clothing makers know that women will buy something if it means they "fit into a size N", so they put smaller numbers on larger clothes to make them sell and that has been happening for a long time now. You cannot tell how big something is by the size label! You know it's true -- you try on this size N and it fits and that size N and it doesn't.

Men's clothing is sized by cm or inches. I want this for us. We can stop agonising over the number and accept the fact that our dimensions are what they are. It would make clothing shopping easier both on line and in person.

We need to make this a movement! Women's sizing by measurements, please! Now!

I agree. Back in the days, when I weighed 112-115 pounds a size 10 was really snug. A few years ago, I was amazed to fit into a size 10 and I weighed 150-152 pounds. Now when I buy clothes, I bring three different sizes into the dressing room unless I'm familiar with the brand, and online shopping is a crap shoot, at least in my case.

I agree! "M" or "L" or even "10-12" or "14-16" are so much harder to figure out than specific measurements like Men's jeans and dress shirts. I have also noticed that the more inexpensive the clothing, the more the sizing is off.

Most definitely. Clothes shopping is drudgery because of this.

Would be great if they did this. Someone used to blog every so often that for those who sew their own clothing, the Misses' sizes patterns have remained the same... but few of us make our own!

I totally agree with you on this sizing thing. You can't trust the number.

I know, right! I hate clothes shopping. I order on line a lot and that's just a crap shoot with sizing. I did see a site that tells you how big the model wearing the garment is for a gauge.
