Let’s try again

Monday, May 14, 2018

Over the past 7 years I regained almost every pound I lost 2010-2011. I’ve been having a lot of trouble with acid reflux, so have made the decision to lose weight again. Now for those who knew me before, losing weight was pretty straightforward and, dare I say, easy. It’s the keeping the weight off that’s been the problem. So, I’m now enrolled in a hospital based program with a personal trainer, a nutritionist, and now a psychologist who specializes in weight loss issues. There is also a new wrench in my plans. I had an endoscopy and learned that I have Barrett’s esophagius, a pre-cancerous condition caused by years of acid reflux. Here are the no, not ever or hardly ever foods on the list: fatty/fried foods, coffee of any kind, non-herbal teas, chocolate, carbonated beverages including sparkling water, fruit juices, citrus fruit, tomatoes, dairy, mint, spicy foods. The food news is that since starting to eat more healthy March 23rd I have lost 19 pounds. And today I walk/ran a mile on the treadmill and a vegan friend of mine asked if I’d lost weight. I’m thinking of trying to go vegan, but still stay lower fat, lower carb.

Checking in to see how you are doing. Sorry to hear about the Barrett's Esophagius. It does seem like as we get older we have more to deal with, but it is good to know what they are. Knowledge is power. I am not Vegan, but I do eat a lot of meat free days with lots of fruits and vegetables. Few simple carbs now and then. Good luck friend, and let us hear from you!

Oh I'm so sorry you have this new health condition. It must be an even greater incentive to make careful wise choices. When you can't do what you used to do - do something different, eh?

We have very much enjoyed the vegan meals we have tried. My favorite vegan book is:

The Engine 2 Diet By Rip Esselstyn - Live Plant-Strong

Why not give it a try.

    good luck.

The hospital based program sounds incredibly supportive. I am sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus. But, happy you are aware of it; so, it can be addressed.

Congratulations on your progress thus far. Wishing you success in shedding the pounds regained and maintaining the loss.
