I have been attempting to get healthy for over 10 years. This current journey began in January of 2017 weighing in at 355 pounds. I began 2017 with some pounds lost (losses then gains then losses then gains), but took on a steady surge in October of 2017 when I truly became serious about improving my life. I have lost 105 pounds and 49 inches, down several clothing sizes, and my BMI has gone from Super Morbidly Obese to Severely Obese (really close to being just Obese). I still have a long way to go, but now I know that I am capable of reaching my goals and that I can maintain a healthy lifestyle once I get there. I CAN DO THIS!
I have been hesitant to share my journey with many people. I fear that I will slip-up again and then have to explain my failures to everyone who knows I was working at losing weight and being healthy. That was the case until recently when I realized that I need people to know my story for three reasons:
1. I am proud of my accomplishments!
2. I need as many people as possible to know about my journey to help keep me accountable. Knowing that people are checking in on my progress keeps me focused and pushes me to continue to do my best.
3. Maybe my story will help to inspire or motivate others!
Yesterday I posted an update in two groups that I have on Facebook. These groups are filled with hundreds of amazing people who used to be my students; one for each school where I have taught. I updated them on my life and let them know that I am working hard to achieve my goals. Obviously they all know that I have struggled with my weight…they had to look at me every day for at least one school year! Being able to tell them, these former students who I am unbelievably proud of for their accomplishments, that I am working hard to reach my goals! Their responses were so encouraging. I have received many comments of love, support, and pride. It makes my heart feel good!
I also recently created a new Instagram account (@peacelovewindmills) to let people see my progress and transformation through pictures and inspirational quotes! I don’t have many followers yet, but I am hopeful that I will be able to reach more people and help them crush their goals by serving as a source of motivation and inspiration. Because if I can, you can!
Yesterday also brought on a potential new way to share my story. The local YMCA where I exercise every weekday morning is hiring for part-time help. I applied with the hope that I can get the job for additional income, meet new people, and help keep myself accountable by being a representative of a health club. I am a teacher and will have time off this summer for work, plus nights and weekends during the school year. This seems like a win-win-win! I am even looking into the steps and certifications needed to be a personal trainer and wellness coach (yet another goal to add to my list)!
I want to be able to help others achieve their goals and hopefully spread a little peace and love along the way!
