You go girl! Today's gym inspiration.

I try to do 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of strength training every day that I don't use the pool. Today was one of those days.
Today was a a normal day. I didn't have to give myself a "talking to" to get to the gym. I had spent the day sitting at the computer, working from home, so I was ready for movement. I start with the cardio because if I run out of steam, I don't mind skipping the some of the strength training.
I use the rowing machine because it is low impact. It's a pretty good calorie burn too! I'm currently doing 2 minutes of steady rowing alternated with 1 minute of sprinting (for lack of a better term). It's supposed to up the calorie burn.
Anyway, there are two rowers next to each other. Today, the other rower was being used by Joanie. She is a retired English teacher. She has been retired a really, really long time. She is well into her 80's. Joanie has white hair, curvature of the spine, and walks stooped over, but you know what? Joanie is at the gym every single day. Stooped over or not, mid-80's or not, rain or shine, she goes to the gym and she rows.
Joanie did 60 minutes today. She did not row as vigorously as others might, but she did what she can do. She stopped for a few seconds every now and then to rest, but she started back up again until she finished her 60 minutes.
You have got to admire that kind of dedication and purpose. And if Joanie can get in there and do what she can do, guess what, so can I. So can you.
If you are looking for a role model, I give you Joanie. She is my hero today and all I have to say is "You go girl!"
