I need your help Sparkers

I have had the flu since Wednesday and have missed 4 days of work.

My biggest problem is my sore throat - I've never had anything like this, it hurts so bad and the pain is keeping me from getting any sleep.

I've tried : advil, advil cold and sinus and tylenol in quantities that make me uncomfortable but no relief from the pain.

I've gargled with Listerine, and salt water. Drank hot water and lemon and honey and Spoonfuls of straight honey. A few different lozenges and cough syrup to coat my throat. These all work but only last minutes.

I've been using a neti pot to keep my nose clear as to not breathe through my mouth.

I got into a clinic yesterday and the doctor told me it's not strep and I'll just have to ride it out but I'm at my wits end and the lack of sleep is making me crazy.

If anyone out there has any other ideas - please share.

~on the plus side, I've lost 11 pounds since Wednesday - but that's not the right way to do it!

Sorry that you feel so awful! I would get a throat lozenge that numbs your throat. That might help with the pain. I hope that you feel better quickly! If not I would go back to the doctor. When my daughter was younger I took her and they tested and said not strep. A week later it was worse so I took her back and they said strep then.

I can't believe the doctor didn't give you a shot or two! Maybe try some Chloraseptic spray to numb your throat. A little Vicks Vaporub will keep your airways clear too so that you're not breathing through your mouth. It sounds to me like you need to be asleep.
