OK, I admit it, I paid extra for the premium service so that I could get the benefit of the SPARK COACH Program. Today's program was relatively short, but SparkGuy Chris was our Coach today, here's what he had to offer us today:
Today's Program from Your Coach - Unexpected Sources of Motivation
Motivation is something that doesn't come easily for a lot of people. But that is usually because we simply expect it to be there--rather than doing something to cultivate it and keep it running high. Just as you need to fuel your body with quality foods each day, you have to give special attention to finding and increasing your motivation.
Our research shows that the most successful SparkPeople members reported actively seeking out "motivational moments" throughout their journeys. These motivational moments can come from almost anywhere--and don't necessarily have to be specific to healthy living. Motivation can come in many forms.
You can be moved by a movie, song, word, speech, photo or experience. The key is to be looking for those moments--and then to capture and remember them for the future. Where could motivation be waiting for you in your life? Where can you go to find it when you need it? Start to develop a daily routine where you actively seek out inspiring stories and events that make you feel like you can reach your goals.
I know that I've got the gift of gab and can generally keep an audience's attention, but I don't think I've fully appreciated how motivational I am or have become on this journey.
I also have come to believe that I have been actively seeking out my own motivation - mind you I haven't done this consciously. I think it just happened as I participated in the 5% Challenge Community, particularly on my favorite team, the Champions in the Kitchen.
What I do know is that the small manageable goals that I have learned to set, the accountability, the Coaching, the little goodies, the small goals achieved - all mounting up month after month, have become sources of motivation.
Strange as it may sound, until this 2018 Spring Challenge was the FIRST TIME, I made my 5% weight reduction goal WITHIN THE CHALLENGE. That also means that all those challenges that I DIDN'T "win" I had to use those as points of inspiration and motivation. We all know about NSU's - Non Scale Victories, right. I had to take my motivation from these areas, knowing or believing that I too could win my personal Battle of the Bulge.
I do know that what I am doing is succeeding, and that that in and of itself is enormously motivating, but I really enjoy being able to share it with all of you, and to be accountable to you as well as to myself.
I like the way we invite people to try the 5% Challenge, "Come have some fun! - and that is exactly what it is!
