Take THAT diabetes!

Friday, June 22, 2018

Two years ago, I was diagnosed with diabetes. I was just into the range that justifies the diagnosis -- 6.5 A1C. Since then, my tests showed 6.5, 6.4....

It was 6 months from my last test when I went in for my labs yesterday. I read the results on line.

5%. FIVE PERCENT. That's in the NORMAL range -- not even pre-diabetic.

NORMAL.

I'm waiting to hear from my doctor that I can go off the meds. Fortunately, it was never so bad that I had to monitor my blood sugar or take insulin, but I was on Metformin. A recent study has linked Metformin with Alzheimer's so I really don't want to keep taking it, even though it does have other benefits for longevity.

Diabetes scared me deeply. I will keep going. I know that if I don't keep this weight off and keep going to my goal, I risk becoming diabetic again. I will have to be vigilant the rest of my life but today, I'm celebrating (with healthful foods!)
