Today I read Ellen G. Goldman's excellent article, "6 Things Successful Dieters Have in Common." This jumped out at me: "Life throws curveballs all the time, but they aren't reasons to throw my healthy habits away. I know that soothing myself with food or TV won't solve my problems. I deal with the reality of the situation and creatively work toward overcoming adversity." I often mistakenly believe that playing a video game will help my stress level more than going to the gym will. But I need to remember that whatever is causing me stress will not go away by playing a video game, and it may get worse. On the other hand, by working out, I can take control of my life and my emotions and possibly be better able to handle the problem. www.sparkpeople.
