Some Food I Buy, Then Decide Not to Eat

Friday, August 24, 2018

There are some foods that test my sense of adventure. Fortunately, I didn't spend a lot on them because after taking them home, just couldn't bring myself to actually eat it.

Caviar. It's still on the shelf months after purchase. Just can't stand the thought of what it is. (smiling)

Tomatillo. My intentions were good, but I didn't want to peel them open only to taste a green tomato taste (per research description).

Cactus. Yup, it does have nutrients, according to my research. But just not appealing once I got it home.

Oh well, I think I'll refrain from future adventures in new food. Hope the heat subsides soon. And hope we get some rain. Badly needed.

Have a happy, healthy day and fun weekend, friends.

I have a friend who makes all kinds of concoctions that I never would, like prickly pear cactus jelly. She brings samples to work. I'm brave enough to try it when everyone else is. Don't think I could bring myself to taste it at home though.

I guess I'm more adventurous than a lot of people. I enjoy experimenting with new and exotic food (although that does not include pastries, cookies, etc.) I have come up with some weird concoctions that I will not do again but often come up with a new favorite! Try it, you may like it!

No weird food for me, I stick to the tried and true basics. Getting into avocados was a stretch for me lol.
Oh how I wish for rain here, though it will likely be too little too late. A summer of smoke haze and drought.

I bought some quinoa once and it took me a while to cook it. When I did, I discovered that my husband likes it better than rice. He is the type that doesn't like to try new foods, just good oI' traditional American food.

Don't think any of those foods would be my choice either but I have done the same thing. Guess we should stick to what we know is good huh?

I can't do these things either and don't have any desire to. I have had plenty of food fails. I didn't like parsnips which taste like waxy carrots to me. Or rhubarb - slimy. Hate frozen green beans, canned spinach, canned asparagus, prunes. Tuna casserole was the worst. Yuck. Honestly, I hate lots of foods.

Tomatillos are a pain to clean that stickiness off them but I cook with them all the time. I don't think they taste like green tomatoes at all, otherwise I'm with you and I'm for adding dried kelp to the list. Such a waste.

I wish I was so discerning: I tend to try and eat everything. But afterwards, I tend to forget it in the fridge or the pantry (hello kelp). Recently I made some marinated turnips, lebanese style, was rather proud of the result, but it looks like I prefer to eat them at lebanese restaurants, so the jar is staying in the fridge forever.

My DH, who hardly ever cooks (thank god) keeps buying mixes for the King Arthur Flour catalog...food porn, I call it.
I never cook from a mix!

I do that too. Years ago my sister who had just gotten married and was not a confident cook
made an apricot chicken for dinner. Agh. Anyway she gave me some food items when she
was going on holiday and you guessed it there was a packet of sauce for apricot chicken.
I dumped it. That combination does not appeal to me at all.
