The Importance of a Schedule

I am a planner. I've tried to keep a good schedule to check in with my goals, but to be honest, it's been a very long time since I have actually done it. For years I have had a consistent reminder in my planner to "weigh in" and "measure" myself. But it's been at least 3 years since I have actively tracked my goals consistently.

That is so crazy for me to admit...

I ignore it every single week. And yet, every time I sit down to plan, I add the same thing as if I will magically pick right back up where I left off.

But I think I will have this thing in the bag soon. I just created a "Wellness List" so that I can check in daily and keep myself accountable. For me, it has to be creative and aesthetically interesting to keep up with, so I'm exploring the interwebs for creative ways to track & follow through.

I keep a perpetual Filofax with all of my calendars, meal plans and reference info, so this is where it will live for now. I'll try to create some fun visuals for my workout room as well.

Do you need creative visuals for tracking your progress, or do you use a planner?

    I've always been a go-where-the-wind-blows me. I've tried different types of planners but I'm never consistent. I keep trying. I use the planner on Spark sometimes too.

    I relate to this! I buy planner books every year and they sit mostly empty. I work from home at my computer and so am also finding ways to find electronic means that I like, makes sense, and I can flip to to keep up. Excel spreadsheets are something I'm trying this year for numbers and even my rudimentary simple ones are surprisingly helpful with plain numbers showing their pictures -- but those are after the fact not planning. The joy is in continuing the journey, right?

    Wunderlist and Google Docs are my planners of choice. . . always available from any where and convenient I can cut-n-paste any new recipes to try FROM the blog or email I'm reading about it--and then schedule it into my grocery shopping list and menu plan right from the moment I think, "Ah, I want to try this one!"

    A word about ignoring: When ever I "ignore" it is that I'm trying to do TOO much. Perhaps this works for other folks too? I get around this by doing ONE new habit at a time until it becomes a part of my life style. No matter if the "new" habit is health related, or some other aspect of life--I only work on one new thing until I've incorporated it into my life and then I don't need to schedule or be reminded--it just is a habit. Works great. Then I add the next one on my list, until it is a habit, and so on. Worth trying--that way you aren't under PRESSURE to be perfect--just over all implementing one change at a time. To pick my change, I take assessment, what is the ONE thing I can do in the next (day, week, month, year) to improve my health or get where I want to go, then I implement the one thing I can do now which will make the greatest difference in the long run.

    I use the calender on my cell phone. If I want to remember or track it, it has a spot on my calendar and I can move it forward at the end of the day to schedule it for the next time.
