Labour Day already!

Monday, September 03, 2018

It's Labour Day. Even though I don't have kids and haven't been in school for 20 years, it feels like a new beginning to me too. After a summer of coasting I'm cracking down. I've been sloppy on taking workday breakfast and lunch which makes for more calories and less money. I bought a precooked chicken and I have greens, broccoli, cucumber, tomato and radishes so I'll make a big salad and take a bunch of raw veggies for snacking. I have oatmeal, raisins and walnuts for overnight oats. I leave the house at 5:40 so I'm going to start having a glass of milk before I leave so I'm not starving when I get to my office and have breakfast 2 hours later. I walk-jogged 5km on Saturday. I signed up for a charity 5k next weekend so I wanted to make sure I could do it. I have only jogged twice in the last 3 months. I love my boot camp classes but it is not enough so I have to add 2 runs a week. The picture is me after a weekend of walking, kayaking, swimming and floating. I'll sleep well tonight. From the kayak I could see the "end of season" changes at the cottages near us. It makes me wistful. We keep going up until after Canadian Thanksgiving. My folks and I live about an hour away and they're retired so they spend most of their time there in the summer. Good luck to all the parents bundling off kids to school tomorrow. My coworker's youngest goes to kindergarten tomorrow. I'm sure there will be tears (his wife, not their son).
