I decided to repost & update this blog because it is so relevant to where I am right now!!
One year ago, just after posting this blog, I lost internet service!! I proceeded to go into a downward spiral with my eating, lack of exercise & just general depression!! My friends are on here & I lost contact with the outside world....because I live on a remote farm, I am a widow, no family, & my friends are online!! So I am just coming out of the fog & am back to get control over my life again....I am taking my own advice!! emoticon

Just like in this pic, where you put your focus is where your energy goes!! Without focusing in the broken cable, her energy could go anywhere & NOT fix the cable!!

Your FOCUS inspires you to take action steps to get to your "BE", as Christine Kane calls it, level....what you want to "BE" in the future!!

(Yes, Successful is misspelled!!)

I don't like the word "goal" because it denotes an end or line drawn in the sand!! You know how the "goals" you set at the beginning of the year, you NEVER achieve!! We tend to resist hard 'lines drawn in the sand', so to speak!!

I like 'focus' because it denotes the direction I am headed in!! My action steps are determined by where my 'focus' is!! My 'focus' inspires me to to create & take actions steps, that if done, will get me to the 'be' I am wanting to achieve!! I believe it is Christine Kane that said, "Where your ATTENTION goes....your ENERGY flows!!" I think it is SO important to get clarity of what that 'BE' really is & to ensure it is authentic to ourselves!! It has to be realistic & true to who we really are!!

I pick something I WANT to transform in my life.....NOT something I SHOULD do or something I am EXPECTED to do or something someone else SAYS I need to do!! You see, doing something for any of those reasons will NOT result in transformation!! Oh, you may change for a while, but you won't have lasting results!! The change may feel better, but it is most probably temporary!!

Awareness & clarity are key to recognizing what Action Steps you will need to take in order to "BE" what you want!! Say you want to lose 50#, THAT is your focus!! How do you accomplish that??

If you look at this FOCUS, it is really big & broad!! You need to narrow it down into the components necessary then choose ONE or two to FOCUS on!! Diet & exercise are 2 of the components as are bad habits, perhaps a sedentary job or frequent travel where you eat out / fast food a lot!! You can't FOCUS on all of them at once!! PLUS they are all intertwined!!

emoticon What I do is take each category & break it down into what things I need to do to transform that part of my life!! Here is a short example....

emoticon I am morbidly obese & need to lose 100#!!

emoticon Fitness:
1) Check with my Doc regarding fitness routine & restrictions
2) Add 15min of exercise to my daily schedule/routine at least 4 days/wk
3) Alternate ST with cardio throughout the week
4) DO the fitness & track it on my calendar

emoticon Nutrition:
1) Check with my Doc regarding appropriate diet & restrictions
2) Schedule time each week to plan meals/snacks for the following week
3) Plan out meals & snacks for one week at a time
4) Make grocery list according to meal plan & shop for needed foods (NO impulse buying!!)
5) Each day, look at my meal plan & cook accordingly (feel free to rearrange schedule of meals)
6) Measure & weigh food
7) Eat at least 2 meals & 2 snacks / day
8) Eat breakfast daily!!

emoticon Good Habit: (improve hydration)
1) Get out pretty thermal 64oz water bottle
2) Fill bottle with distilled water each night & put in fridge for next day
3) Drink water FIRST before any other beverages in the day....ALL 64oz!!

emoticon Bad Habit: Stop evening grazing!!)
1) Make sure I have healthy choices for snacks
2) NO snacks around chair or desk
3) Must get up & go into kitchen to get snack & ONLY ONE serving at a time
4) package snacks into one serving sizes

Hopefully you can see that trying to accomplish all that at once would only lead to failure, like New Year's resolutions do, & would cause me to become overwhelmed & just give up!!

emoticon That is why I pick one or two action steps to do at a time!! Yes, my overall FOCUS is to lose that 100#, but I will narrow down that focus to my Nutrition first!! I do my planner set-up & scheduling on Sunday for the week to come. I am currently trying to develop & maintain a daily routine, so I actually schedule....and DO my fitness!!

emoticon I plan my meals on Thursdays as I go to town to shop on Fridays!! During the week I look for new healthy recipes & start making a list of things I think I might like to fix, but my actual meal plan gets firmed up on Thursday & my grocery list made!!

    I remember reading this Blog (and many others you've written, e.g. Spyders are Connected!!, Have you ever thought about 'Resilience'??, etc.) and though, I rarely have or take the time out to comment, as I should, I want to, and need to tell you, they are all EXCELLENT and still, very much relevant - truly the words & thoughts of a very wise Lady, with depth of understanding, and the knowing of how we all have the need to take the Steps.

    I *love* how you've involved us by your written breakdown - the using of Examples. A lot of times we're told what we should 'do' or Taught with all the information overload we could ever want (so that we may remember some of it, if we're lucky) but it's always been about the participation in an activity - even if only taking Notes.
