On Sept 10, 2013 I committed to doing some sort of exercise every single day no matter what. My minimum goal was 10 minutes. I soon bumped my minimum to 15 minutes, and within a year to 20 minutes. I can find 20 minutes in any day to exercise in some way.
Last Saturday I hit my 2.000th day on this streak. That's Two Thousand. :-) How have I done it?
First - I committed to MYSELF to do this. Sometimes, especially early on, it was a 10-minute Spark video. Sometimes a walk around the block twice a day. Sometimes it was walking up and down the stairs. Strength, cardio, yoga, it doesn't matter. Do SOMEthing is my mantra.
Second - I have a DEFAULT plan. While I vary my exercise (walking, yoga, kayaking, strength training, running, biking, WATP, etc.), sometimes I feel indecisive. If I'm indecisive but energetic, I walk. If I'm indecisive and tired, I have a couple go-to bedtime yoga routines that cap off my day nicely.
Whenever possible I squeeze my first 20 minutes into my lunch hour, but there have been plenty of evenings where I end my day with 20 minutes of bedtime yoga.
Your plan doesn't have to be complicated. It just has to be there. And you have to take it seriously.
Can you commit to one WATP video each day? The 1-mile happy walk is my favorite right now, and I can do it in my office. www.youtube.com/watch?v=
Or 10 minutes of relaxing yoga? Yoga with Adriene is one terrific resource. www.youtube.com/watch?v=
Before you know it you'll be rocking a 10-day streak, then 20, then 30, 50, 100 and even 2,000.
