falling off vs getting on

One piece of cake wont hurt. Well ok 2.
That milkshake looks really good, I'll have one. with my burger and fries.
It's just a coffee .... from Starbucks, with whipped cream and caramel sauce.
I'll just grab some fast food for lunch.
It's been a rough day, I'll skip the gym today.
Mom always said to feed a cold.
I've lost 3 pounds, I can eat what I want this week.
I'm emotional, I NEED chocolate. NOW!
The only problem with these excuses ... we tend to bunch them together ... Days on end. Until all the hard work we have been doing to get healthier is gone.
Till we're back to the weight we were before we decided to lose. Or worse .... we weigh more.
Getting on ...
Co-workers birthday party.
Family members that tell you you look fine the way you are.
carving out time for exercise in your already jammed scheduled.
I lost my job. my friend. my dog. wreck my car ......
Pretty much the same things that can get off the "wagon" make it hard to get back on it. Getting healthier is hard work. and the smallest of things can throw a wrench in all of your hard work.
I was doing good. I was losing. I was walking. I was eating good.
Then life happened.
I've gained back a few pounds.
I fed my emotions. ... oh I cried them as well. But feeding them felt better than a wet snotty face.
5 days ago I said that I was brushing myself off and getting back on the wagon.
yep I said it, but I didn't do it.
Life happened again.
So I fed my emotions and cried some more.
I think getting back on is a lot harder than getting off. I know what I need to do, but I don't do it. I know what works for me, but I don't do it.
Does that mean I don't want to lose weight and get healthier?
It means I'm human.
It means that losing weight IS hard work. And we don't like to do things that are hard. Sure we feel better when we workout and lose weight. But we don't like what we have to do to get there.
We don't want to spend the rest of lives counting our calories and minutes on the treadmill. We want to just live and be.
Watching other people do it, it looks so easy. But it's no easier for them. They have the problems as we do. The difference .... I don't know.
stronger will power?
I don't know.
What I do know .... baby steps.
log my food. doesn't matter what I eat, just log it. start small. Then tweak what I've been eating to improve the nutritional value. not the counts.
Then tweak the counts.
Then move. and log it.
It's going to be a stormy wet day for me and some of you. Well some will be getting more wonderful snow.
Hope you guys stay dry and safe today.
