Pickleball and relieving anxiety

Saturday, November 30, 2019

I have found Pickleball as an amazing source of exercise that has been very successful for me in working through anxiety and depression. I will play many days as much as 3 hours as its so much more rewarding for me, and fun, then the machines.

The ability to talk to so many people during the workout really helps get my mind off the things that I find my OCD takes me to , resulting in the depression. I would highly encourage those who can to find a sport that you can play that gives you a lot of cardio as well as social involvement.

I like pickleball as its very easy on the joints, it doesn't give me my reoccurring tendinitis, and it burns off a lot of calories. I have lost over 40 lbs since starting to play it a little over a year ago. It has taken off weight I had tried for over 40 years to take of otherwise. It sure works for me both with weight loss and anxiety/depression.

Unfortunately anything that causes sweat plus may require 2 or more people to be less than 6 feet away from each other at all times is not allowed in the San Antonio Texas area due to Convirus-19

emoticon Okay BIKE4HEALTH, I have been excited about this Pickleball all day. Because today 12/23/19 is the first time I ever heard of it. I live in a small community in north Texas and we have a News Feed called Nextdoor (it's an online thing).
emoticon So I posted on it this today:

"Does anyone play Pickleball? If you don't know what it is Google it or better still watch how it's done on YouTube. The best way I can describe Pickleball is that its sort of like tennis but played on a smaller court.
I just learned about it today Mon, 12/23/19 and I would like to start playing but it takes at least four people. Is anyone interested?"

Then I got this from: "Diane Gan South Bonham, TX I would try :)"
I ask Diane if she had ever heard of Pickleball or checked it out.
Diane said I have heard of it but never played.

I'm still in shock that anyone here in Texas has ever heard of it. So I'm going to buy some Pickleball paddles and the balls and see if we can use the Tennis Cort at the VA in town. I'm thinking that I could just use some duck tape to mark off the Pickleball court.

I have a lot to do and tomorrow is Christmas eve. I better get busy. Merry Christmas BIKE4HEALTH and Thank you for the inspiration!

I have also found pickleball to be a great cardio workout. I use a fitbit tracker and I've also worn a chest strap to pickleball a few times, and both confirmed that I was getting good cardio while playing.
