Today is December 1, 2019 ... and today marks the first day of the last month of 2019 and it is also the start of a new week. This makes me happy (I have a little OCD and like to start things at the beginning of a year/month/week, if at all possible).
Today I received a SM from KALISWALKER - she is one of the Co-Leaders and the founder of the 5% Challenges. (She will actually probably chuckle when she reads this as I've mentioned to her several times how I like beginning things at the start of a week). Well, we are currently accepting members for the next Challenge, the 2020 Winter 5% Challenge, scheduled to begin on Saturday, January 4, 2020. I decided I would reset my trackers/goals here on SP today (beginning of a new month/new week) and practice some of the things that I have learned through SparkPeople and the 5% Challenges so that I could set myself up for a successful beginning to 2020.
I know, if you looked at my profile ~ you will see that I have been a member of SparkPeople for an eternity. I began my journey with SparkPeople ~ Labor Day Weekend, 2008. I have had successes and stumbles. I've worked with some wonderful and supportive SparkPeople during that time. I count some of them as true friends even though we have never met face-to-face. Some of the people that I have 'met' on this site are some of the kindest and most caring people. I've tried to support those that I have become friends with and have been blessed to be supported in return.
Have I reached my goals? Yes, actually I have - and then I didn't pay as much attention as I should have and have found myself having to 'start over' several times throughout the years. It is OK though, the SparkFriends that I have met are supportive and generally don't judge me and I don't judge them. Basically, we are all 'here' (on SP) for very similar reasons: to get healthier and/or feel better about ourselves. The site offers TONS of resources ... and it also gives like-minded SparkPeople the chance to connect.
In searching for a team where I felt a strong connection and belonging, I stumbled across the 5% Challenges. I was invited to 'check it out' in the spring of 2010 by someone that I had met on the site. I joined the 5% Challenge Community and since there was a Challenge already 'in progress', I was put on a team that was able to 'follow along' with the regular Challenge to get a 'taste' of what the Challenges were like. After that Challenge ended, I signed up and found a group where I was welcomed with open arms. For most of the seasonal 5% Challenges since, I have been a member and have moved up to somewhat of a mentor as well. I am one of the Co-Leaders of the Overall 5% Challenges and enjoy working with the 5% Challenge Community.
