Tuesday : Desert Day 30 Something

Tuesday, December 10, 2019

My son is visiting. Full of energy while the two of us are dragging a bit. My cold is hangin on —/ my sister joked thst I only have one more week of the 3 week cold. Thanks Sis ! We had a full day yesterday and one moderate desert hike in the Santa Rosa’s . Elevation was only 426 feet, but a lot of switchbacks. It was late in the desert day so we did a loop back just before 4 pm snd sundown. Today we spent a few minutes congratulating a young man from Boston who did his first Ironman 70.3 ....without training. He has promised to prepare better. My son is not an Ironman but trains regularly. Last evening while my husband and I were ready for bed he was in the gym doing his full program. TRX and all. He has promised to show me all the ins snd outs of his program. As for the young Ironman , he will be in touch with the training coach we call a daughter. She and her husband, also a tri coach will help him get ready for his next tri...and maybe a full Ironman. We will stay in touch. We are each at different stages of fitness... my husband the former Marathoner and Weightlifter now walks and weight trains , I no longer teach fitness but train and walk regularly, my son ( a writer ) has a personal trainer and a new program monthly, and we all stay fit according to our ability. And we learn from each other. Trade experiences. There is always something new but preparing is the common thread. Each of us has to learn to warm up , cool down, stretch and perhaps try a yoga or tai chi class. Be nice to your body, and it will serve you well. Try something new.
