WHY JESUS CAME
For God did bit send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world would through Him be saved.
David Livingstone was a British medical missionary of iconic proportions in nineteenth century England and Africa. When it was feared that Livingstone had died in Africa, the Welsh explorer H. M. Stanley went to the continent in search of the doctor. And he found hi, reportedly saying with typical British Politeness. "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" Livingstone is reported to have answered in the affirmative, saying to Stanley. "I feel thankful that I am here to welcome you."
When anyone travels a great distance in search of another, it raises the question of why. And that question can be raised about why Jesus came, a question to which Jesus Himself provided several answers: to save the world, to seek and save the lost, and to serve as a ransom for sin. We know why Jesus came. But the questions remain. "Is our response like Dr. Livingston's? Are we thankful for Jesus' coming? Do we welcome His presence?
Jesus came to seek us, serve us, and save us. Have you greeted Him with thanksgiving for coming to find you?
