I'm back!

Friday, January 10, 2020

I’m back to the BLC after having 2 sets of twins in 2.5 years. I checked back on my last blogs (back in 2014???) and we had started trying for kids. It turned out that we tried for a year on our own, then went to a reproductive endocrinologist. After some testing, it turned out that we needed IVF. For anyone that isn’t aware, IVF is really hard on your body. I gained about 20 pounds just from all of the medications. We were really lucky and our first retrieval resulted in 5 embryos. We chose to transfer 2 in a fresh transfer, and both took! We wound up with B/G twins who were 3.5 weeks early. The pregnancy was pretty easy for a twin pregnancy, but I couldn’t eat enough to keep up with growing two little people. By 10 days after delivery, I was already back at pre-baby weight, if not pre-ivf weight.

When the big kids were 15 months old (what were we thinking?), we went back to our RE and transferred again. One embryo didn’t survive the thaw, the other two didn’t take. We were so, incredibly disappointed, but jumped right into another retrieval cycle before we had even really worked out how we would finance another retrieval. This time, I overstimulated and had OHSS and my ovaries were HUGE. Luckily, there are meds out there to help and the only complications I had was extra pain. We ended up with 6 embryos this time, but we had to freeze them and wait because of the OHSS. When it came time to transfer, we decided to go ahead and transfer 2 again since neither took the last time and we really didn’t want to go through this again, partially because we were travelling 2 hours each way to do this. Both took! Our second set of B/G twins were also about 3.5 weeks early and I actually lost weight with these guys.

We were so lucky to not have any major complications for any of our babies and no one needed NICU time. One of each set needed some extra time in the well baby nursery, and we needed every minute of time they could give us in the hospital, but we all went home together both times.

Now that I’m no longer pregnant, nursing, or recovering from it all for the first time in pretty much 4 years, I’m ready to lose all this extra weight. I’m struggling with portion size after needing to eat SO MUCH just to provide enough calories for the babies. It’s just me now, so I don’t need a chicken sandwich, fries, a drink, cookies, and a milkshake just to get my calories for lunch.

My goal for BLC 42 is to lose 18 pounds in 12 weeks.

How:

I’m in stepbets pretty much constantly, so I’ll keep up with the daily step requirements and they’ll increase as this challenge goes on.
I’ll keep up with the BLC challenges, and I’ve decided to do Jillian Michaels Body Revolution again. So far, it’s going great.
I’ve also started back with Intermittent Fasting. I had some pretty good results while I was weaning off of nursing, so I’m starting back.

I love your story. It seems that weight loss would come just by trying to keep up with 4 young ones! Congratulations!
