What are the chances?
Phebess and I live on opposite coasts of the USA.
She travels ALL the time as her blogs describe. Joe and I travel a LOT
We were on different cruise ships sailing in opposite directions but docked in this little town in Patagonia on the same day.
Puerto Chacabuco is a town of 1,500 people. There were more than twice that many passengers on our ships, all coming ashore on tenders (big lifeboats), boarding buses or taxis for tours or checking out the tiny artesian market .
How did we find each other?
When I read her blog of Feb 1st, I realized we would be in the same part of the world at the same time, but she had already boarded her ship
She & her husband were traveling from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Santiago, Chile on a Holland America ship. Joe & I would be on a Norwegian ship sailing from Santiago to Buenos Aires.
Neither of us had internet access at sea. Connections while in port were not guaranteed either
I thought we would just be 2 ships passing in the night, but sent her email anyway.
There is exactly one café here
A charming place to relax and visit over tea.
We were 2 determined women to make this happen. Each ship had its own dock. Phebe arrived first but wasn’t able to enter our docking area as I couldn’t enter hers. She at least tried while I just stood in a clear space waving wildly at any passengers exiting her area. Amazingly we recognized each other.
Eventually we went our separate ways.
The surrounding countryside is beautiful
Time to leave.
Maybe we will meet up again somewhere in the world
