Know your destination but know directions may vary

We all have similar goals. We want to be healthier. Our whys aren’t all the same. Neither are our specific destinations. Many of us have more than one destination for different parts of our health. And we all have smaller milestones to pass on our way to bigger ones. We all want similar things but we’re all different. That’s why we need to stop comparing our journey to others. Ours may be faster or slower or take detours or change destinations or add new ones. But often we see someone ahead of us, getting to their destination faster or doing better and we feel like we’re not doing well enough. We can get inspiration from others, we can get advice from them, we can be cheered on by them but at the end of the day their journey isn’t exactly like yours because it is yours and theirs is theirs. The journey isn’t going to look exactly like anyone else’s so don’t expect it to.

We started this path because we decided we wanted something better for ourselves. It’s where we’re trying to get. It may be harder than we want or take longer than we want but when we get there do you really think you’re going to arrive and start beating yourself up for not being faster or better? Or do you think you’re going to celebrate because you’ve arrived? So why discourage yourself while you’re on your way? Or if someone said I looked into the future and you’re going to reach your destination…but it’s going to take longer than you think. Would you say “Well if I can’t get there by the time I want to then I’m not going at all!” or would you just accept that and go? Remember why you started this in the first place.
