Staying Positive

Friday, March 27, 2020

Yesterday was a bit of a downer for me at least for part of the day. We had to have some work done in the house and we had the workers wear gloves and we stayed outside. It took longer than we wanted and were getting antsy just sitting around although I went out for short walks every hour. When they left I waited for awhile then disinfected everything so fingers crossed.

Even though I cancelled dinner with my brother thanks to comments from my Spark friends (a big emoticon ) I decided to make the dinner I was going to make. That made all the difference! got everything ready, did my sautéing and chopping. Didn't get the beans I needed but had something I could substitute. Cooking is a pleasure for me. Simmered it and then got a glass of wine and met my brother and his wife in the driveway. they understood my cancelling dinner and drove up with their wine in their golf cart. We were at least 10 ft apart and had a good hour where we just caught up, laughed and shared some stores about their kids. they drove off and I went in to finish dinner. Turned out to be delicious - you can get it on "Shrimp and white beans with fennel and pancetta". Did somevsubstituting.

Today has been GREAT! Loved our walk this morning then I went out for my own walk. got back in time for a 30 minute yoga class on Facebook offered by Silver Sneakers. will check out more of their classes.

We took the car out for a long ride along the beach and looked at the gorgeous houses. Home now and have zen-like music on which is very relaxing.

Each day is different and staying positive is so important. We can get through this. yes we can!

What are you doing to stay positive?

We have been taking rides in the country and it does help just to get away from the house for a little while. Even our pooch enjoys going along. Yesterday was my granddaughter's 17th birthday. We made a happy birthday poster and put it in the car window and drove past their house blowing the horn and yelling happy birthday out the window. I made sure my daughter would have her out in the yard. I did stop long enough to hand her a birthday gift out the car window. That really brightened my day.

My tips to stay positive: Limit reading the news. Stay active. Try to eat well. Connect with others via phone or e-mail.

    Stay well. emoticon

It does sound like a good day! We are in the process of switching condos, but don't need to move until Tue. We took some things over there (2 doors down). Will take some more tomorrow. We are only here for 3 months. I packed like I was never going to move back home! This was a nice change of pace. Although we did get our morning walk in!
    Continue having good days!

That sounds like a good day!!

I am not so worried about "staying positive": but I don't take my down moods too seriously. They are "weather" and I notice them and then just wait for them to pass . . .

Turning off the news. Although I do watch Governor Cuomo's briefing every morning. He is so forthright and honest about this entire horror story.

    Stay safe. Be well. emoticon

The health challenges I've been experiencing have isolated me for well over a year now. So, I was isolated prior to this virus. Only leaving the house for non-essentials (an outing for coffee/tea or dining) maybe as many as 2 times a month; but, more often than not no non-essential outings during the month at all.

Managing that experience has been a head game. I've essentially spent the last 15 months experiencing life from the living room chair. Somehow, I'm finding that funny that I'm living from a chair in the living room. Thankfully, I am easily amused.

So, what am I doing to stay positive? Nothing.

It's the thoughts between my ears and the feelings that can have an impact on my experience of life, if I allow them. I choose joy. And, that joy is not dependent on something external. It's an inside job.

Do I always experience life as serene? H*%$ no!

When I notice that I've strayed, I have the choice to have joy or not. Again, it's a choice.

When times are troubled or my thoughts and feelings are turbulent, I liken the experience to doing the best I can to remain within the eye of the storm.

WATERMELLEN recently blogged about it: Space before Thought. It's an incredibly powerful space from which to live ones life. And, it does not mean ones life activity will be limited. But, tapping into that space and living from it? Wow!

I am really appreciative about your good attitude toward the comments your Spark friends made about not having even your dear brother into your house. It’s so weird to have to remember to consider those who are near and dear to us as “dangerous”. I keep hearing my late mother’s voice, saying “You don’t have to LIKE this; you just have to DO it.” That’s kinda how I’m getting past those frustrating moments when nothing is as it should be. Stay strong!

Walking a lot, staying in touch with family and friends online, dreaming up pantry meals so that I don't have to shop for at least 3-4 weeks and planning my house move.

Catching up with family via phone, internet. Also friends. Doing small projects around the house, like deep cleaning. I'm telling you when this is all over, I bet all over America there will be the most cleaned, and organized houses ever.

Glad you got whatever you had done that you had to have done on your house. Weather here has been up and down, mostly down without Mr. Sunshine shining his face very often. That's the thing I think I would like the most at this time of the year is to be able to get outside and have Mr. Sunshine more than not.

I'm not a shrimp eater but whatever this dish was I'm sure it was amazing. Glad you still had time to visit with family even if you had to be 10 feet apart.
