Spring Challenge

So I reached out to my son and offered an apology (see my previous blog) for hanging up on him, and the reason why. I didn’t trust myself to fully express everything I wanted to say, so I wrote a note. I revised it several times, enlisting the advice of DH to make sure it was succinct and non confrontational. For those of you on Facebook, you’ll understand when I say that he read my note, and gave it a thumbs down. He didn’t even respond. I’m over it. I made my peace, and I’m moving on. He’s my son...I love him, but I don’t have to like him. Anyway...that was just an update for those of you who had sent me sweet messages from my previous blog. I appreciate it. Saturday was the first day of the 5% Spring Challenge. Needless to say, my weigh-in that day was 1.5 lbs heavier than the day before. Go figure. I’m using that weight anyway. The program is more challenging than I realized in terms of keeping track of things. I already eat healthy, track my intake and exercise, add up spark points, drink water, etc. The leaders have added motivational tasks which we have to post to. Things like word association games, fill in the blank, use emoticons to describe your exercise, etc. I had a hard time figuring it out at first, but I’ve got it down now. At first it took me quite a bit of time to complete, but that’s better now. I’m able to spend just a few minutes each day to complete theses tasks. So far, I like it and I think I’ll be able to keep up. Had a lovely walk in my neighborhood today. My community has water canals on every street, and it’s lovely to see the wildlife. There is a lake in our community, but it’s on the other side of the development. Yesterday, DH and I drove over there. I noted the street names, and noted where the walking trails are between streets, which allows pedestrians to navigate short cuts. Today, I walked it. I wasn’t sure how long the walk would be, but I knew it would be more than a mile. DH estimated it would be 4 miles...I disagreed. I should have bet money on it...I had guessed 2 - 2.5 miles. It was 2.3! Absolutely lovely...and absolutely worth 45 minutes of my time! Here are a couple pics from my walk today. Hope everyone is having a lovely sparkling day! emoticon

    Love that you are already getting the 5% challenge figured out. It took me awhile and lots of questions. One of the leaders was so kind to help. Don't be afraid to ask for help if needed. I have been in the challenge several times now and still spend at least an hour a day (sometimes more) on Spark. Seems most of us have extra time these days. emoticon

    I'm sorry for your heartache. As they say, you can choose your friends, but you can't choose your family. We can all hope that greater maturity will bring a softer heart, and a more understanding attitude.

    I like knowing I can check in with the team by doing the optional motivational games, etc. These activities are meant to encourage non-threatening participation, especially for some people who are cautious about revealing themselves online.

    I am sorry you and your son are at odds. My son is away at marine school and I wish he would text/call me more. He seems to only call if I tell him too. I am glad you had a nice walk. It has to be nice to see the animal life.

    The games are optional. Don't do them if you don't have the time.

    Yes, when there is a 1.5 pound more than before, it‘s frustrating.. I didn‘t step on scale for a couple of days guessing, it‘s going to be a gain.. Finally today I did and it was a pound less.. Just keep moving/stop eating after 6p I say to myself..
