A Covid Poem

Thursday, May 28, 2020

Isolation is confusing
Not retirement, and not amusing

A vacation implies time together spent
Not working from home with just one income for the rent

While the garden looks good and the dog’s always groomed
What is the motivation to clean, vacuum or do the bathroom?

Because no one is coming, no parties are planned
No family dinners, games or lending a hand

In fact it’s quite stressful thinking of those on the front
And as for errands and shopping, taking the brunt

Of the risk and the planning, the masking and washing
Of Connecting and smiling though the effort seems daunting

Good riddance Covid, I wish you be over
Let us get back to normal with friends coming over

Enough of the crafts, projects and songs
It’s not much fun when no one is playing along.

But I have to admit when someone does something nice
It’s a bit like the the Grinch’s heart melting from ice

A warm fuzzy feeling that some one cares and is helping
From afar it is true but the distance starts shrinking

Cause while physical distance is what we all have to do
Social distance is different and the reminder is you.

Your gesture was greeted with a smile and a tear.
If we just take precautions there is nothing to fear.

And despite what we are missing from how we used to do...
New ways are evolving to relationships renew.
