Special Memories via Snail Mail

Tuesday, June 09, 2020

My oldest granddaughter turned 5 in February and I decided to start a new tradition of sending letters back and forth in the mail.

She lives 5 hours away with her mom and dad and I don't get to see them very often. Audrey is like most 5 year old girls and loves to draw and colour. I mailed her 5 self addressed stamped envelopes and asked her to draw me some pictures and mail them to me.

I received her first envelope about 1 month ago and I was so excited to see it in my mailbox. Immediately I called her on video chat and she got to see me open the envelope and pull out all 5 of her drawings and paintings. Thankfully, she was able to decipher what some of the pictures were, because despite my best guess I was a bit perplexed. Rainbows and flowers are some of her favourite things to draw.

"Grandma with the Grey Hair" is how she identifies me because she has two Grandmas. So, that is exactly how she draws me in her pictures. She is going to be able to read small words soon and I hope that we can continue with letter writing back and forth. . Audrey drew me in an excavator because we have construction behind our house. You will see she drew me with grey hair!

I am grateful I have the opportunity to create special memories with her and can't wait until the next one turns 5 next year so I can start this tradition with her too.
