I don't remember where I heard it or exactly how it went, but here is the overall take-away:
~ ~ ~ 'If you met someone who time travels, you might want to warn them NOT to stop in the year 2020!' ~ ~ ~
I chuckled when I heard this and agreed, then I actually started to think about it. Yeah, 2020 is a year that has been CHALLENGING, to say the least, but - if you are someone who tries to find the positive, there are some parts of 2020 worth remembering; worth reliving.
Here is what I mean: Like many of you, when I turned the page from 12/31/19 to 1/1/20, I felt hopeful. After all, it was a New Year; a new beginning. First off, as I do every year - I recommitted myself to becoming the best 'me' that I could be. I seem to make this resolution every year, but - I think sometimes that it is more of a reflection of what I did 'right' and what I did that I could improve upon (like many of my SparkFriends, I'm a constant 'work in progress'). 2020 was the year that my nephew and his future bride would be married; and even more exiting was the upcoming wedding of my DD and her fiancé'. Both were reasons for the family to be excited about getting together and celebrating our family getting (even) bigger. My Dad would celebrate another milestone, his 91st Birthday this past March and, with continued good health, my mother would be able to celebrate another year of being cancer-free (in January, 2017 she finished chemo but went onto more chemo/radiation a few months later ~ at my daughter's college graduation in May, 2017, she was still having chemo/radiation, but finished shortly thereafter). In July, DH and I will celebrate meeting 35 years ago; and in September, we will celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary (it wasn't always easy, but we seem to have 'made it'!).
If you have continued reading to here, you are probably thinking 'what in the world does this have to do with SparkPeople and The Second Half of 2020'? Well, it has a lot to do with it. Actually, with all of the uncertainty and unrest this year, I think it helps to focus on things that are 'normal' to you. Good Health ~ in good times and in times of unrest, your health is first and foremost! Without it, you will have a difficult time executing the most basic of daily tasks nor will you be able to 'be there' when family and/or friends need you to help them through some challenges. Normalcy = CELEBRATIONS!!! For me and my family, we were able to celebrate my Nephew's wedding right before all of the lockdowns; for DD and my future SIL, it has been a 'crazy ride' filled with uncertainty; planning and replanning. Their original date of 6/6/20 did, in fact, happen - but had to be modified to allow for 'social distancing' that the pandemic mandated. Several close friends and the bridal party attended in person; grandparents and close, out-of-town family viewed via Skype/Zoom. The 'party' that had been planned is now in the 're-planning' stages and we hope to have the celebration on 8/8. The venue upgraded us to the 'Grand Ballroom' which will allow the tables to be placed further apart and will allow for some 'social distancing'. It has been decided that instead of letting everyone know that they were married on 6/6, we are doing a 'mock ceremony' (our Minister was not available on the new date) with her sorority sister from college as the officiant. She will have her walk down the aisle with her father in her 'magic dress' and will have family/friends as witnesses. At the end of the 'ceremony' it will be announced that they actually were married on their original date and we'll invite everyone to celebrate their marriage with us. Normal? No - not quite, but I hope that it is special, nonetheless.
With the opening/anticipated opening of many businesses in our area, we hope to be able to move ahead with plans and focus on our family's very special date in early August where two people that love each other very much will be able to celebrate their love with family and friends. This weekend, I will go bring my dress to someone for minor alterations; DD's dress will be fitted/altered also (she got her dress right before 6/6, but could not go back to NYC to have it fitted/altered as Kleinfeld's was closed, now they are booked until very late in July with no weekend appointments at all). I hope to have my hair/nails done soon and also hope that I can begin to go back to work on a more 'regular' basis.
So, as we go back to our lives and our 'new normals', lets not forget all of the familiar, comfortable things that we rely on every day ... and, please never lose sight of what your hopes/dreams were at the start of 2020!

One of MY 'normals' is SparkPeople and the 5% Challenges ... please read on:
I've been a member of SparkPeople since August/September 2008, that is almost 12 years! In 2010, I found the 5% Challenges and became a member of the Firecracker Team. I've participated in good challenges (yeah - I lost weight) /bad challenges (oops - I gained weight) /every-type of challenge in-between (yup! - I've had to start 'over again' many, many times). I've been an active member and/or leader of the 5% Challenges for MOST rounds since I began participating in them. I have met many 'virtual friends' (and a few of those I have met in person) that I've been able to talk to about almost anything/everything and I have received support, virtual hugs and a shoulder to cry on when I've needed it.
Our NEXT Seasonal Challenge is the 2020 Summer 5% Challenge, although we didn't have a start date, we are hoping to begin on Saturday, 7/4/20. That is less than 20 days from today (6/15/20). Here is your invitation (copied from Lynn/KALISWALKER, one of our Overall Challenge Community Leaders).
