Words of Encouragement. July 28 2020
“ Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. Now we ask you, brothers to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonishes you. Hold them in highest regard in love because of their work.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11-13. NIV.
Have you ever tried to get approval or praise for something you have done that you were proud of? I must admit I enjoy the praises of others.it motivates me to do more and to continue doing things that will earn more praise. It’s frustrating when you really work hard and long in accomplishing something and then no one notices or just tells you to keep up the work. I Thessalonians 5:11 exhorts us to, “ Encourage one another and build up one another, just as you are already doing.” Did you catch it? We are to encourage one another. When was the last time that you encourage someone. We all desire it and even become frustrated when we do not get it, but when was the last time you offered encouragement? I must admit it is much easier to receive it then hand it out. Someday we will want to hear the words, “ Well done good and faithful servant!” Will you hear them because of the fact you were an encourager to others? I look forward to hearing them. So why can’t we hear those words from one another today? We all have the privilege of showering words of encouragement to others. Who will hear wholehearted encouragement from you today?
The Thessalonian believers were were not giving their leaders appropriate respect and encouragement. That is why Paul was so careful to defend his apostolic authority . (2:1-11). The reference here is to elders and deacons, those who lead the church. We too must respect, honour and encourage our church leaders.
🙏. Father, thank you for Pastor Don as he has led our church over this past year and a half. He was sent to us for such a time as this. He has brought unity, love and respect. Bless this day back to our church and I want to encourage him for what he has done. Lord I also want to thank you for the elders in our church who lead and direct the affairs of the church. We have been blessed by men that love you and want to serve the church. Bless them today as well. Thank you for leading us to Pastor Tim and I pray he will soon find a house and that he will be able to start his ministry with us. Lord, help me to be an encourager and someone who lifts others up. Bless this day I pray in Jesus’ name.
