Gossip. Proverbs 16. August 06 2020.

“He that covers a transgression seeks love; but he that repeats a matter separates friends.” Proverbs 17:9

Gossip among believers has always been a problem. Some think it is ok to do it and others think its wrong. After reading Proverbs 16 and the above verse, i have concluded that it is a sin, and we need to call it a sin. Gossip destroys our souls as well as the reputations of those we are gossiping about.

Am I being too strong about this? No! If you think about the power of gossip than its not too strong. I have seen gossip destroy a church, wreck havoc among Christians and even send souls to hell. Think about the young people whose lives have been ruined because of the church’s gossip chain. Jesus says in Mark 9:42, “ Whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.”

This should make us realize how serious gossip is and think twice before we speak. When we speak it should be to build up one another. We need to be stepping stones and not stumbling blocks for our brothers and sisters in the Lord. We should be spending as much time praying for our brothers and sisters as we do talking about them. If we did than there would be less to talk about.

Each one of us should search our lives and ask God to forgive us where we have gossiped in the past. We need to be builders of His kingdom and not destroyers. Gossip is hurtful and truly a sin in God’s eyes.

🙏. Father God forgive me for gossiping about others and for hurting others through my words. Help me to build up my brothers and sisters in the Lord. Help me instead to pray for others and to be an encouragement to them. In the name of Jesus I pray.

The MSM is a prime example of gossip: "What is highly esteemed among men is an abomination is the sight of God." I agree with you: "Life and death are in the power of the tongue." James 3:6 concurs.
