A Servant of the Lord. Luke 22:24-30. Sept 02 2020.
“With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men.”
We all need to be servants for the Lord. I am not saying only that we need to leave home and become missionaries in another land, but we must serve wherever God has placed us. We should have a strong desire to serve the Lord. We must recognize the needs in God’s kingdom and respond to them. It matters not where we are. Service should be the responsibility of all who are called by His name.
Servant in the Bible refers to a slave or bond person. He or she gives themselves for an other person’s will. They are devoted to that other person and forfeit their own rights and interests. That is why we truly need to be servants of Christ.
We can get this proper mentality for service when we have a heart full of love for God because of all that He has done for us. We can also encourage service to the next generation who will follow us. Any thing that your children do should be done as, “unto the Lord” Do you talk to your children about this? Do you develop a keen awareness for the needs that surround your children every day? Teach them what it is like to be a servant through your own example.
Moses was called a servant of God. Paul was too as well as James. Many of us want to be called servants of God as well. That is until someone treats us as a servant and then we get upset. However being a servant of God is really being a servant to others. So be in service for the Lord by seeing and responding to the needs around you. Christ taught us to serve the Father by serving the least of our brothers. Be a servant today.
