Moving house - Day One
Tuesday, September 08, 2020
Today was the first day of our house move. We have hired a van for a week and a friend with a van is filling that too. Today we took two van loads over, with seven of us loading and six of us unloading, then when we got back, we loaded up once more from our storage unit, ready for the morning. Tomorrow there will be four of us unloading and then five of us loading up again for Thursday, when we have hired someone to take the heaviest furniture and pool table. Although the house isn’t ours till Thursday, because the delay was down to the vendor’s bank, the vendor gave us a full set of keys so that we could start our move, without losing money on the van hire. They had also left the house immaculate, something I have never seen in over thirty house moves in over forty years... everything was sparkling, all the windows and kitchen drawers. It will be lovely to be able to put our belongings away without having to clean first.
A tiring day, but we’ll soon be moved and settled. It was a hot day and a long one - we didn’t sleep well last night and I was up at 7:00 to pack up lunch for us all - frittatas and an apple cake - workers need to be fed! The new house is about an 80 mile drive, so that takes over an hour each way. Tomorrow should be less tiring as we’re only loading the vans once.
Tomorrow is also due to be rainy, let’s hope it holds off when we’re unloading the vans in Perpignan and then loading up again in Carcassonne....
