Unpleasant medical tests

Wednesday, October 07, 2020

I got a phone call today telling me that my doctor had ordered a colonoscopy and endoscopy for me, and did I want to schedule it? I said, "Oh? That's news to me." She said, "Your doctor didn't tell you about it?" And I said, "No, she didn't say a word."

"Well then," she said, "I guess you're probably not ready to schedule it." Well no, I wasn't. Admittedly, although I was completely truthful that the doctor hadn't said a word about it, I wasn't in the least surprised. Of course she would want me to have the most unpleasant of all tests. Naturally, an ultrasound wouldn't do the job, or a sleep study, or anything more or less pain free. Nope.

Not looking forward to discussing this with her, either. :-(

I just had both the other day. The prep is the worst part although if they give you a kit it much easier. Good luck. emoticon

I found the prep worse than the test itself. Once they gave me the drug, I felt and remember nothing.
    Good luck!

Hope you get through these tests quickly and painlessly. If your doctor ordered them, I guess she felt it was a necessary evil for you. Doctors usually don't schedule tests unless it is warranted. Wishing all the best for you.

both tests are not a big deal, I have them twice. no pain. Not a big deal, honestly. Just have to fast for a day and take some laxatives. the test are worth the effort. they can save your life and a colonoscopy is the only way to detect colon cancer in early stages. Please have the tests, Your doctor would not order them if she didn't feel they were necessary.

    edited because I can't spell!!!!

PS...a sleep study is actually much worse (I have had two of those as well) You will be asleep for the tests

Ugh. Sorry they are putting you through that! Thankfully you'll be heavily sedated or all the way under for the process. I had a friend who had to get it done a few years ago and I was her driver. From my understanding the worst part of it is the prep drink and the experience that goes with it. On a related note, I saw a meme not too long ago that said if 2020 was a drink it would be a colonoscopy prep I guess you are in keeping with the times! Hope it goes as easily and as pain free as possible.
